Junk Journal Club Reminder: Collage Masterboards!

20230927 150221

Join us this Thursday, August 20, at 6:00 PM in the Mowen Room at the Columbiana Public Library!

We’ll be making collage masterboards—a fun, relaxing way to combine paper scraps into beautiful new backgrounds. Your finished masterboards can later be cut or torn into tags, journal cards, pockets, decorative pieces, and more.

What to bring:

🔅 Paper scraps of any size, color, and pattern

🔅 Your own glue—this is important! Glue sticks are often the easiest and least messy choice for this project.

🔅 The rubber stamp we made in July, or any favorite rubber stamps you’d like to use. Big, chunky designs work especially well. Please also bring an ink pad if you have one.

🔅 Items to decorate your pieces, such as words and phrases, small images, markers, colored pencils, or other embellishments.

🔅 Scissors are optional! Many junk journal artists prefer tearing their papers. Torn edges add wonderful texture and help the different papers blend together beautifully.

If you have the following items and would like to use up some of your stash, please bring them. If you don’t have any, don’t worry—we’ll have plenty to share!

🔅 A few sheets of base paper. Those “ugly” 12×12 scrapbook papers hiding in your stash are absolutely perfect! Notebook paper, packing paper, magazine pages, junk mail, and similar papers also work well.

🔅 Old book pages. They add wonderful texture and interest to collage masterboards.

🎨 Keep Creating With Us on Friday!

The library’s Cut, Paste, Create Club will meet the following day, Friday, August 21. This is a separate club organized by the Columbiana Public Library, but Rhys and I attend—and we’d love for you to join us there, too!

We’ll bring acrylic paint, china markers, and other materials to help you add another layer of mixed-media interest to your masterboards. We may also continue stamping, decorating, or cutting them into finished pieces.

Think of Thursday as creating the foundation and Friday as an optional “Part Two,” where we can play, experiment, and take our masterboards to the next level!

Please check the library’s newsletter or event calendar for the time and details of Friday’s Cut, Paste, Create meeting.

Come to one meeting or join us for both—we’d be delighted to create with you! As always, beginners are warmly welcome, and there is no wrong way to create. 💜

Creatively Yours,

Lindy
