Welcome to the very first edition of Your Creative Corner—a little bit of creativity delivered right to your inbox.
Our Junk Journal Club has always been about more than paper and glue. It’s about slowing down, trying something new, and remembering that creativity isn’t reserved for “artistic people.” It’s for everyone.
So every month or so, we’ll be popping into your inbox with a few simple ideas, little challenges, helpful tips, and a bit of encouragement. Our hope is that these emails inspire you to spend just a few minutes creating—even on your busiest days.
🌿 Creative Prompt
Choose a word.
Open any book, magazine, or newspaper to a random page and pick the first interesting word you see.
Now create a journal page inspired by that word.
It doesn’t have to be literal. If your word is window, maybe you draw one. Maybe you write about a memory. Maybe you glue on something transparent. There isn’t a wrong answer.
It might become a collage, a memory, a color palette, or simply the title of your page. The goal is simply to let one little word take your creativity somewhere unexpected. Don’t look for perfection—think of it as inspiration to get started.
⏱️ The 5-Minute Creativity Challenge
Only have five minutes?
Find three things around your home that most people would throw away.
Maybe it’s a receipt, a tea bag tag, a clothing tag, a cereal box, an envelope, a postage stamp, or a page from an old book. Or maybe it’s bits & bobs from your ever-growing box of scraps.
Challenge yourself to use all three on one journal page. Or maybe just make a cluster with them. A junk journal cluster is a mini collage made by layering scraps of paper, fabric, and small embellishments. Used as decorative embellishments, they serve as a practical way to use up leftover bits from previous projects.
Don’t worry about making something beautiful. Just make something.
Five minutes of creativity is always better than waiting for the “perfect” time.

✂️ Quick Tip
Keep a small basket, envelope, or jar somewhere convenient for collecting interesting bits of paper.
Whenever you empty your pockets or open the mail, toss anything that catches your eye into your collection. Before long, you’ll have a wonderful stash of ephemera waiting for your next journal page—and you’ll never have to wonder what to use.

Some of my favorite journal pages started out as complete disasters.
Sometimes the page looks awkward…until one more layer transforms it. Sometimes it never becomes a favorite at all—and that’s okay too.
Every page teaches us something, even if it’s simply, “Well…I won’t do that again!”
So don’t judge your creativity by a single page. Judge it by your willingness to keep showing up.
